Domestic (Korean) Concert Musician: BTS
The winner of the Domestic Concert Musician Award for the “13th Golden Ticket Awards” goes to BTS (RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) who showed their mighty ticket power by selling out two concerts in one year at Gocheok Sky Dome (BTS could not be interviewed due to their overseas schedule).
The past year has been a year where BTS received attention as world stars beyond Korean idols. They were the first K-pop group to receive the Top Social Award at the “2017 Billboard Music Awards” (they’re also nominated for the same category this year). Their 5th mini album “Love Yourself: Her” which was released in Septemberof 2017 charted at #7 on the Billboard 200 chart and received love from fans all around the world. In January, they were invited to the American Music Awards, one of three major American music award shows, and appeared on talk shows of three major U.S. networks including “The Ellen Show.”
Their album sales were also unparallelled. Total sales of “Love Yourself: Her” recorded the highest sales ever recorded in the history of GaOn Chart and surpassed 1.61 million copies. In addition, their title track “DNA” set the record for the fastest K-pop group MV to reach 300 million views on YouTube.
BTS, who accomplished unbelievable feats in the last year and are in their sixth year after debut, will come back after 8 months on May 18 with their third full-length album “Love Yourself: Tear”. This album will be the third installment in the “Love Yourself” series of introduction, development, turn, and conclusion, and will capture the pain of boys who are faced with sadness. Even before the release, the new album is gaining lots of attention and is ranked #1 on online retailer Amazon’s CDs & Vinyl Best Sellers list. We look forward to seeing what these boys, who jump over reality and run towards their dreams like their team name, will accomplish this year.
